Girl Scout Camp

Just before the July 4th weekend Reagan and I went to Pal Girl Scout camp. It was in Danville, IA at Camp L-Kee-Ta.
We did a Mommy/Daughter 3 day/2 night camp. We met some nice folks and got to spend some quality time together, which is a rarity these days. She hopes N. Carolina has camp too!!

Singing songs around the campfire with Makayla and Julia.

Roasting marshmallows for s'mores.

The polar swim (at 6:00am) was optional.....naturally Reagan opted we do it!
Reagan with her cabin mate, Makayla in front of our hut.

Reagan being a hopper. Hoppers are campers that come early on assigned days to help set up for meals. During meals they get food from the kitchen staff and help pass food as well. After the meal they clean up.

Reagan doing daily capers....chores......huts had to be swept, latrines cleaned, and sticks needed to be collected daily.
Reagan and I in our campsite.

For craft time Reagan made a campfire.

We played lots of games. This one was a trust game, the sponges were landmines. Elbow tag was a favorite for the girls....they liked to watch the mom's running and chasing around. Lots of laughing = lots of fun!
Creek stomping!! Put your boots on! Reagan stomped around in the water and had a blast. I followed the creek via the grass and rocks....I only brought one pair of tennis shoes and really didn't want to spend the rest of the time in wet shoes. It was a fun time.

~SPLASH~
We made friendship bracelets.
One night we had a cookout at our campsite instead of a meal at the dining hall. We made pie iron pizzas on the campfire...yummy!

Reagan making a fruit kabob. We also ate ticks on a toilet! (Apples sliced with peanut butter and raisins.

There was no electricity and not flush toilets. This station was our only running water. This is wear we washed our hands and brushed our teeth!! We showered at the pool showers. At night we could hear an owl, come kill deer birds, and raccoons!

One night we played Clue with live characters. Super fun and the kids had a blast trying to figure out which of the counselors was guilty.

Thurs. morning I opted to ride horses. It was awesome. Here's a picture of me and my horse, Tater. We rode the trails for well over an hour. My butt was sore, but it was SO worth it.
Flag ceremony on last day.

A very moving moment.....they brought the flag in on the horse and raised the flag then played Lee Greenwood's, Proud to be and American. There weren't many dry eyes, for the adults anyways. Geepers.
After the mom's rode horses on the trails the girls joined us and we got to walk them around the arena for a good hour. Reagan liked riding Tater. She was was able to make him go and stop on her own and got to lead him some too.

Reagan on Tater.
All the girls with their counselors, G and Cheerio. For fun the counselors use made up names. The girls got a kick out of it.

Here is a very pooped Reagan on our trek back to Story City. It was a long drive for us since our District is in Eastern Iowa our camp assignments were about 3 - 3 1/2 hours away from Grandma and Grandpa's house. It was well worth it though. I asked Reagan what her favorite part was...she replied, "All of it!"
